Pampa, Texas Newspaper October 05, 1948 Pages: 1 and 2. From a photocopy of the original column.

County Juvenile Officer Paul D. Hill, 54, 422 Hill, died unexpectedly at 8:30 p.m. yesterday in Pampa Hospital from a heart attack suffered while on a juvenile call to the south side of town about an hour earlier.
Mr. Hill had received a call from police headquarters that boys were into vandalism on the south side. Accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Hill, the juvenile officer spotted one of the boys and went after him. As he approached, the boy broke to run and the officer followed. The attack came on. His wife drove him to Pampa Hospital where he died shortly after admittance.
Mr. Hill had suffered several heart attacks, some serious, within the past 18 months and had to be hospitalized several times.
He was appointed juvenile officer by County Judge Sherman White on June 7, 1943, and was later appointed county service officer.
Born on February 24, 1890, in Clifton, Kans., Mr. Hill came to Pampa in 1927 as manager of the L. T. Hill Dry Goods Store, a chain operated by his brother. Later he left the store and went to work for the local Chevrolet agency and still later went into business for himself in the Hill's Men's Wear on W. Foster. After several years he left the store and went to work for the City Police Department as desk sergeant. In 1943 he received his county appointment.
His appointment as juvenile officer resulted from his intense interest in children and their problems. During his five years in that post he followed each case personally and thoroughly, day and night.
In his youth, Mr. Hill found an interest in active sports centering mostly around the boxing ring on the West Coast. He was an ardent sports fan and attended practically every sporting event in Pampa.
In addition to his police work he took an active interest in church, and veterans affairs. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and holding every office in both organizations. He has served as chaplain of the American Legion for the past 13 years.
He was chairman of the Board of Elders of the First Christian Church at the time of his death, and a member of the Texas Police Association and National Probation Association.
Surviving besides Mrs. Hill are two daughters, Mrs. Jean Haw and Mrs. Marjorie Morris, one son, James Harris Hill, all of Pampa; one brother L. T. Hill, Omaha Neb.; one sister, Mrs. Edith Harriman, Dallas; and one grandson, Paul Dee Morris, Pampa.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday from the First Christian Church with Rev. Thurmond Morgan officiating. Burial with military graveside services wil be in Fairview Cemetery with the Duenkel-Carmichael Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be: County Judge Sherman White, County Attorney Bruce Parker, County Auditor Ray Wilson, Chief of Police Louie Allen, School Business Manager Roy McMillen and Leroy Franks, past commander of the American Legion.
A joint military memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. today in the American Legion-Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall with the auxillaries of both organizations participating.
