A two-story frame building was erected in the early part
of 1874 by John H Spencer and was located on Lots 7 and 8
in Block 33, as numbered on the original map.
The deed to the lots to John H Spencer, executed by T A
Flewellen, is of date December 18, 1873, and of record
in Book "A", pg 111, Deed Records of Gregg County, Texas.
The hotel was known as the "Spencer Hotel". Several years
afterwards, Mr. Peck acquired the hotel property and ran
the hotel until his death.
