I wanted to relate my GOOD experience at Henderson county court house.
Three years ago, my mother and I visited there on our very first
attempt at genealogy, since that is where her family was from. We were
so unbelievably excited (being newbys) to find the record of my
great-grandparents marriage in the book! I know the clerk must have
laughed to herself when we excitedly asked if there was any way that
we could get a copy of it. After copying it for us, she told us to
just wait 'till we were finished then pay for it with anything else
that we might find. About half an hour later, we were searching for
other tidbits when that same clerk handed my mother an envelope and
said "I thought you might like to have this". Inside was the original
marriage license from August of 1897. You can imagine how excited that
made us! She said that she didn't want to tell us that she was going
to look for it, because if she didn't find it, we would have been so
disappointed. I don't know her name, but wish I did, and if she sees
this, I hope she recognizes herself here. There are definitely some
nice clerks at Henderson county.
