My maternal great, great, great grandmother was Catherine McMillan; she was born about 1821 in Florida. She married Seaborn Sexton who was born around 1819 in Alabama. Together they had a ridiculous number of kids, John about 1838, Neil about 1841, Wiley in 1843 who married Nancy Medama Donaho, M.E. about 1846, David about 1850, Emerline about 1853, and Jane about 1855. All of this bunch were born in Mississippi. But wait! There are more, but these kids were born in Texas, James about 1859, Elizabeth (Betty) about 1864, Catherine about 1866, and Seaborn in 1870. Family lore has it that great, great, great grandmother was then taken captive by the Cheyenne and had another child named Melissa around 1877. I'm so not sure about that because she was getting pretty old by then and it may have been before Elizabeth was born. Indian blood was pretty taboo way back when.
So then after Little Big Horn some of the Cheyenne are rounded up in1877 and sent to a concentration camp in Oklahoma. I think the captured whites and their kids are assimilated back into civilization as we know it and Betty, Seaborn, and Melissa are adopted by George W. and Martha Hightower. I did find them all together in the 1880 Madison county census. Betty and Seaborn were listed as laborers, no child labor laws then. Don't know what happened to Catherine but I would kill myself if I had that many kids.
Elizabeth marries T. S. (Tym?) Faulk in 1882 and Eva Faulk is born in 1982 or maybe 1984. (T.S. may have adopted her?)
Eva's aunt, Melissa Sexton marries Silas Land Dendy in 1897, she is his 3rd wife.
In 1899 Eva marries Thomas Land Dendy and they have another bunch of kids. I found them in a 1920 census without Thomas. I'll just list their ages, Jessie-19, William Chester-17, Silas-16, Bessie Mae-12, and (my grandmother) Lillie Bell-8.
Later Eva marries Jessie Oscar Wofford, she ran him off too but not before they had Ruby Lorene in 1923 and Oscar Sidney in 1925.
Lillie Bell marries Charles Finley in 1931 and they have three kids, (my mom) Mae Lorene in 1932, Charles Ray and Lena Mural.
My mother marries Claude St.Clair in 1953 and my twin brothers Roy and Ray come along in 1955 and I'm born in 1956. Ray dies when he's 4 but Roy and I are still kicking
A lot of this is flaky, for the longest time I thought I had Cherokee blood and then my mom tells me different a few years ago. She sometimes tells tall tales too. If anyone can add anything or straighten this out I would love to hear from you.
