Bonnie, the McCurtain County DeBerrys are all descended from one of Dr.
Martin Luther (?) DeBerry's ( and Minnie's) brothers. FYI, the good doctor
was a great favorite in Cuthand.; RRCo. which shares with McCurtain County a
history in the making of cat whisky. Dr. DeBerry would take a drink with
his clients, and would accept a jar in payment for his professional
services. I posted a story a year or two ago about his gun play, and will
repeat it to you if you dlid not see it.
I think your county judge would be very happy to spend a few minutes talking
about his forebear. Besides, he will be running for reelection one of these
days, and you may be a voter.

Daddy's middle name was DeBerry and he was named after the doctor that
delivered him and his two siters and a brother that died when he was about 4
years old.
> Lenard Deberry Provence was Daddy's full name and someone on this board
suggested that I might contact the Judge named DeBerry who is in charge in
the county where I live. I have not been able to do so, yet, but I still
plan to do it. I cannot tell you why I think it matters, but I just want to
know about the Doctor.
> I have not had reason to go to the Courthouse here in McCurtain County,
but when I go pay the property taxes, maybe I will have a chance to talk to
that man. I doubt that he will have much free time to talk geneaology with a
stranger, but maybe he will.
