Greetings list - new subscriber -
I have recently begun to get serious about my wife's maternal lines, which center around the Roma area in the mid-1800-1900's. I visited the County Courthouse and the Romas Cemetery several years ago, and gathered some great info - but am not renewing my efforts there, and have uncovered lots of new areas that need more info.
Specifically, her mother's paternal ancestry centers around Rafael SALINAS, born ca: 1842 in Mexico (I have not found his origin in Mexico). His wife was Gragoria GARCIA, and they had children Felipe, Jose, Leomicio, Monico, and Maximo - all born around Roma.
Felipe SALINAS married Juana MONTOYA on 10 May 1882 in Roma, and they had children Jose Maria, Encarnacion, Manuel, Rafael, Gregaria, Paubla and Elida.
Juan MONTOYA was the daughter of Estevan MONTOYA and Francisca SAENZ (origins in Mexico unknown.)
Jose Maria SALINAS married Blaza RODRIGUEZ on 17 Jan 1914 in Starr Co...
Blaza was the daughter of Augustine RODRIGUEZ and Wenceslada (sp?) RAMIREZ, who were married on 11 November 1888. (I have photos of them.)
I am told that Augustine was the first sheriff of Starr County. ?????? (I have nto been able to confirm that.)
Augustine was the son of Nazario RODRIGUEZ and Maria del Refugio PEREZ (I believe he was married first to Maria Tomasa SAENZ); Wencenslada RAMIREZ was the daughter of Gavino RAMIREZ and Roberta GUERRA.
All of these families came from Mier.
If any of this sounds familar to anyone, I'd appreciate some help - and I am willing to share what info I have.
THANKS - Art
