Hello Debbie, Sharon, Ted and List,

Thank you all for clearing up the dilemma of the Leinster. It's funny I
couldn't find it in Northern Shipwrecks database, as it contains over
65,000 entries.!! Kathleen did some sleuthing of her own, and came up with
this interesting article.

<<excerpt from The Irish Times (on the Web)
"Anchor memorial to mailboat dead"
The anchor of the RMS Leinster, the mailboat sunk by
a German torpedo with the loss of 5OI lives, was erected yesterday at Dun
Laoghaire, the port it left on its last voyage October IOth I9I8 ( I was out
a few years on the date, now that I have it I can write to
Ireland for her death cert.) The Minister of State for the Marine, Mr. Eamon
Gilmore, officiated.
"It remains the worst sea tragedy in Irish history. Of the 685 people on
board twenty two were post office workers sorting mail, 7O were crew, and
the vast majority were soldiers, returning to first World War battlefields.
The ship was hit twelve miles out and 184 people were rescued by the
British destroyers, RMS Mallard and RMS Lively. (end of article) more to
follow if you are interested.
Thank you again Regards Kathleen.>>

Thank you everyone, Kathleen now has some great facts to add to her family
file.
