I believe my gg-grandfather, John Sterling, was captain of the Swan on

a voyage 12/13/1847 from Cork to New York. Does anybody know if there

is any way I can use this information to get further details about him

or more precisely, where he came from in Ireland? I have always been

told that he came from Clare, but have been unable to confirm it. Is

there any information more detailed than a passenger list or can I

determine what company owned the ship?
