This was sent to me by a relative and gives a bit more info on the
emigration of my ancestors.
Regarding John SCHMIDT and Margaret GINTLING, according to family
information passed on to me, they emigrated via New Orleans about 20
years prior to the Civil War. Their ship took 61 days to make the
journey from Germany and they almost starved; they were rationed 1 piece
of bread a day. Also, Margaret Gintling had 3 sisters: Mrs. MILLER, Mrs.
BEERBAUM and Mrs. DEENER (all married names and no first names, which
isn't very useful).
