You don't give us a clue about the time-frame you are interested in, but
you do say "Dad" so I imagine it was in the 1900's.
>From 1865 to the 1880's I would feel pretty safe in saying that they would
have definitely arrived via Quebec, with from 1874 on, being also via
Liverpool. As I imagine that we are talking about the 1900's, then maybe
his recollection about landing in New York may be quite true. But ... just
to confuse things for you, by the early 1900's there were many Halifax and
Saint John arrivals. The train system was wonderful in those days, with
"special" trains meeting the ships. I've seen Halifax arrivals (many
Norwegians also) with destinations as far away as Tacoma or even San
Francisco!

>Does anyone know which would be the port of entry for when he came to
Canada (Saskatchewan) He once said that he had landed in New York but I
thought that was on his first trip back to Norway after becoming a Canadian
citizen. I appreciate any help...Evonne C.

You don't say when or where from! If it was from Montana, (the list I have
is from ca. 1935) there were several entry points, eg:
Whitetail Montana (MT) ~ Big Beaver Saskatchewan (SK)
Whitetail & Raymond MT ~ Big Muddy SK
Scobey MT ~ East Poplar River SK
Raymond MT ~ Regway SK
(under North Portal)
Westby MT ~ Ratcliffe SK
Turner MT ~ Treelon SK
Opheim MT ~ West Poplar River SK
Havre MT ~ Willow Creek SK

There are Border Entry records for Canada, from 1908 until 1918. They are
located at the National Archives of Canada (NAC) You can view the film
numbers of their holdings at this URL

Good luck,

Sue
