Hi Steve,

The GERMANIA was a 2,123 gross ton ship, length 298.6ft x beam 39.4ft, one
funnel, three masts (rigged for sail), iron construction, single screw and a
speed of 10 knots. There was accommodation for 80-1st, 120-2nd and 525-3rd
class passengers.
Built by Caird & Co, Greenock, she was launched on 6th Apr.1863 for the
Hamburg America Line. On 22nd Aug.1863 she left Hamburg on her maiden voyage
to Southampton and New York, and commenced her last voyage on this service
on 14th Jul.1869. On 7th Jul.1869 she was wrecked near Cape Race with no
loss of life.[North Atlantic Seaway by N.R.P.Bonsor, vol.1,p.389]
