Ted Finch:
1944/45, Steaming up the Sheldt river from the
English Channel to Terneuzen. Delay at Terneuzen
prior to the Ghent Canal. I questioned the pilot about
a liner in the ways; roughly 6/700 feet in length, possibly
more. Superstructure had not been started but, what I could
see with and without the glasses, she had georgous lines
and I'm sure the Dutch would have been proud of her.
The pilot continued that the Deutche's had other ideas
other than completion. They filled the bilges and other void
spaces with concrete! Wouldn't that frost you. Know anything
about this vessel or if she was every completed?
Cheers, John
