Colleen,
Many liberty ships were constructed in the Kaiser .shipyards in
Sausalito, CA. (Harbor Drive & Gate 5 Road) One of the buildings
still stands, and houses around 100 artists' studios, as well as
other businesses. The town of Sausalito has pictures and history of
the ships built there, and the U.S. Corps of Engineers has a Bay
Model facility that houses much history of the whole San Francisco
Bay. There is a Maritime Museum in San Francisco and I'm sure at
least one Liberty Ship still floats either in Sausalito or San
Francisco.

p.s. the building in Sausalito, the Industrial Center Building was
one of the first pre-fabs, three stories, constructed of wood and
metal tie rods in Tacoma, Washington and shipped down to the shipyard
in Sausalito where it was erected on wooden piers capped with
concrete, sunk in fill. Interesting heave and sway during an
earthquake. Originally five of these buildings made ships on that
site.
