The NYT, and Index, is available in many libraries here. My community
library has both going back to the mid 1940's. If I travel another 10 or 15
minutes, a slightly larger library has the complete Index and microfiches of
ALL the NYT, going back to its' inception. Suggestions: call your local
library and ask what they've got. Also, the NYT has a web site and if you
inquire about archives, you'll see that copies of old issues are available
(at great cost).
Good luck to all of us!
