There is a book called 'White Wings' that has a deal of info on
ships to NZ . Have seen quite alot of ref to ships arriving at Port
Chalmers

Just because he was Norwegian doesnt mean he was on a Norwegian ship
!
If this chain of events happened here the first record I would
check would be the naturalisation indexes . These give the name of
the ship the person arrived on . The second would be a book called '
Ships Deserters' . This is for NSW Australia only . The info in
this book comes from NSW Government Gazettes .
If all else fails I would assume the NZ Goverment have similar
publications . Our are indexed ........
