I was wondering if I may ask for a few moments of help?

I just found out that my great-great-grandfather, Samuel OGDEN, and his
brother, Peter, left England via Liverpool aboard the Caroline Nesmith bound
for the port of call of New Orleans. The date of arrival was given as
February 7, 1849.

Where do I go from here to research the subject? Would there be passports
from that time period? Would there be any other types of records or
documentation for which I should search? Do you suggest any other
mailing
lists or internet sites which might assist me now that I have this basic

information?
