Wondering if anybody out there happens to have anything on a sidewheeler
named the Druid, built ca. 1826 in Scotland, then shipped to Argentina
in pieces for reassembly and ferry service on the Rio Plata around
Buenos Aires. Her first captain was apparently a man named Bell, hence
my interest, and there was a big migration of Bells down to the
Argentine around then. I'm trying to find out what became of the
sidewheeler and if, indeed, her first skipper was a Captain Bell. Many
thanks,

I do know that the DRUID was the first steamer on the Rio de la Plata soon
after independence of Buenos Aires from Spain. She ran her first trials
between the Casa e Gobierno and the new port at San Isidro on 13 Nov 1825.

Does anyone here know anything more about this early South American steamer,
her builder or subsequent fate - or Captain Bell?
