Skaanvik or Skånvik is located between Bergen and Stavanger in Norway. The most likely port to embark a ship for America would be Bergen in the years 1852-1860. Arrival port was most likely New York or Quebec. Unfortunate there is no passenger's list available for Quebec in this timeframe, but for New York there are some in the beginning of this timeframe. You can find the ships that departed from Bergen in 1852 at http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_year.asp?ye=1852 and easy work your way up to 1860. Passenger's lists available are marked. Take also a look at the web site "100 Years of Emigrant Ships from Norway" http://www.norwayheritage.com/ships/index.asp.
> Does anyone know what ships brought Norwegians to America from the Skaanevik area, or what ports they debarked? 1852-1860 time frame. These Norwegians settled in the Fox River area of Kendall County Illinois.
