,

The Indiana normally traded to Philadelphia, indeed the arrival in
New York around October 3, 1892 appears to be her only visit around
that time.

I looked in the New York Times to see if there was any reason given
for the visit. I was surprised that the arrival was not listed in
October. The NYT for 1892 is not user friendly; the shipping column
is not in a regular place and news items appear to have been
scattered randomly throughout the paper.
Finally I found a small note at the bottom of a column underneath an
advertisement for housewares :-) This said that the Indiana and Nevada
had been released from quarantine and that the Bohemia was likely to
follow. (NYT Oct. 4, 1892, page 8).
Another note (NYT Oct. 1, 1892, page 2) mentioned that the Nevada had
been in quarantine since September 25. Naturally it didn't mention the
Indiana, but it is possible she had been in quarantine for some time
also.
A cholera epidemic was raging in Europe and some infected passengers
had already reached New York on emigrant ships.
