Subject: Sarah Dunbar, IRE to CAN 1843?

Hi, I am new to the list.
I have spent hrs on the internet searching for my elusive GG Grandmother
Sarah Dunbar. No luck.
After losing her mother and father in Ireland, an aunt (maybe named
Thompson) was wired to come to get her and take her to Canada to be
raised there with her. Sarah was b. May 4 or 6, 1836 and her mother
died in childbirth after a ship wreck off the coast of Ireland the night
of Sarah's birth. Family tell me that she was 7 when she emigrated to
Canada after her father died. They were Scotish living in Ireland. I
calculate that she sailed in abt 1843. Should I assume that they sailed
to Quebec or Nova Scotia or ??? How improbable would it have been for
them to sail to NY? She ended up marrying and settling in Ontario.
Does anybody have any ideas about where I should search? I have
Ancestry.com but she is not listed in that data base. I feel that I
have searched everything I could find on the web. I am home bound and
cant get to the FHC.
Thanks for any help or ideas you might have,
Judy in Oregon
