if there is a picture of the ship Calhoun out there?
My 2great-grandfather and his sister arrived on it on Jan 2, 1857
in New York from Liverpool, England. I have found the passenger list
and was hoping for a description or even a picture!
Here is the arrival report from the New York Times (Jan. 3, 1857).
Arrived New York January 2
Ship Calhoun (packet,) [captain] Truman, Liverpool November 22,
with mdse and 328 passengers - all well; one birth, no deaths.
Unfortunately lacking in detail. Other ships arriving at this time
had suffered damage in heavy storms and the steamship Hermann was
obliged to return to safety in England after one of her engines failed
in mid-Atlantic.
I don't have details of the ship. I wonder if it was the same vessel
as the John C. Calhoun?
