Listers,
There seems to be an absence of ship disasters from 1869-1872 in Newfoundland.
I think that sounds a little odd. The reason I say this is I am still looking
for my gr gr grandfather John Morrissey. He is supposed to have died at sea in
~1870. I am not sure if the ship went down or he alone diede at sea, family
history is not clear on that. I have checked the Grand Banks site, but it
stops at ~1869 and picks up ~1872. Either there was 3 years of no losses or
deaths at sea or there is no information regarding this.
In this day and age of information gluts, the latter would not seem plausible,
while the former seems totally bizarre. The problem is I do not have a ship
name. I assume that he departed from St. John's because that is where he was
from, but I am not sure that he departed from there either.
John was born ~1840 in St. John's, Newfoundland. He was the son of Joseph
Morrissey and Ellen Kearney. He married Elizabeth Hennessey and had 2
daughters - Ellen and Hannah. Can anyone help me here? Thanks for your help in
this matter.
