Hi List,

Some of my immigrant ancestors arrived at Moreton Bay, Queensland on the
John Fielden 11 June, 1853. The master of the vessel was Capt. Clarke.

I would like to know more about Capt. Clarke, but have not found anything as
he doesn't seem to have captained the vessel on any of the voyages before or
after which I have been able to find. Nor have I been able to discover his
first name to differentiate him from a variety of other Capt. Clarkes.

I would also like to know as much as possible about the history of the ship
itself and would appreciate any suggestions anyone can make.

I have seen the details as to her specifications from Lloyds and believe
from another posting that prior to the run to Australia in 1853 (and a
couple of subsequent trips) she carried Irish emigrants to the US returning
with cotton.

I would love to know what became of the John Fielden and any other
information which might be available on the history of the ship if anyone
has any ideas.

With thanks,

Jo Mitchell
