Subject: [UFT-L] Software GEDCOM problem -- resolved

Hello again --

I want to thank all of you who offered advice on how to receive,
decipher or somehow obtain the GEDCOM file from my cousin. I must have
had about 15 suggestions from readers of this list.. Like my daddy used
to say: " There's more than one way to skin a cat." (I'm a cat lover
and he assured me that meant caterpillar tractor, but I'm not so sure.)

My cousin uses AOL as the ISP and apparently that is what caused the
problem. The attachment was either too large or for some other reason
AOL does not transmit attachments in the normal format. I wasn't able
to convert it to a .ged file. As a last resort, I was going to have my
cousin copy the file to a diskette and send it via snail mail.

But I wanted instant gratification, so I forwarded the file to my
daughter. She had no problems with it and converted it to a .ged file
and returned it to me as a standard file attachment that I was able to
import into UFT with no difficulty. I am now the proud possessor of 55
new direct ancestors and dozens and dozens of related kin.

You're a great bunch. May you all be as lucky as I was to pick up a big
batch of thoroughly researched ancestors.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday.

Phyllis in NJ
