I would agree with you about that William Cox. I think he married twice?
After Ruth died in 1812, I think he married Sarah Kingston 11 July 1822.

According to my records the William Cox (probably b. 21.9.1777) who married
Ruth Long on 11.10.1798 was the son of John Cox (b. 5.1.1752) and Jane
Bloundy (Blundy). John's father was believed to be George Cox b. abt. 1702.

Possibly someone else on the site could confirm or correct this but I hope
it might help.
