Hi Linda

I've just transcribed one with 2 'nurse child', age 5 and 3, at the home of
a 50 year old widow. Can't see her breast-feeding 'em! My thought is that
she acted as 'nurse-maid/nanny' to these children for payment. My own
grandmother, age 12 at the time, looked after other children whose parents
worked in the mills in Lancashire.
I suppose every penny earned helped survival.
