Dear Petrina,
To search for a reference on Ancestry.com, follow the following steps:
1.From Home page, select SEARCH
2. On the next screen, scroll down to BROWSE BY LOCATION
3.Select UK & Ireland under SELECT REGION
4.Select England under SELECT COUNTRY which only appears
after you select UK & Ireland in the previous step.
5.Select 1861 England Census under ENGLAND TOP DATABASES
6.You should now see a page with the heading "1861 England Census".
7.Click on "Show Advanced Search Options".
8.You should now see down the page the heading "Census".
9.Enter 3067 next to RG9/
10.Enter 29 next to folio
11.Enter 6 next to page
12.Hit SEARCH
13.You will now see an index to the page selected.
14.Click on the right-hand side any icon under VIEW IMAGE
15.You should now be looking at the image of the original census.
16.Move down the page to schedule 24 and you will see what was being
checked on.
Warmest regards,

Hi there:
All well and good, but how do you translate those numbers into a search on
Ancestry? I got as far as it being in Burnley, but after that I think I got
lost!

Hi Pet,
You need the numbers when you look up a specific image on Ancestry (or
another online site that has the censuses).
RG09 stands for 1861
3067 is the Piece number
The number of the enumeration district is 13
The Folio number is 29
The Page number is 6
The schedule number is 24
This was in Burnley in Lancashire.
Petra
(pleased to find someone with a similar name!)
