Dear Judith,

You have misconstrued my reply to Frank. He asked why the list of available
parishes for the header varied from what the Enumerator has written. I
replied that the spelling used in the places.txt file came from the PARMS
file and the PARMS file was created from the parish details provided by the
National Archive. I was not saying which was "right" and which was "wrong".

Warmest regards,

Terry and Frank

When we are transcribing we are supposed to enter the Civil Parish as the
Enumerator enters it aren't we? That really goes against the grain with
villages such as HInton Charterhouse, Englishcombe, Combehay which are
invariably
written in different ways and sometimes twisted right round Combe English,
Charterhouse Hinton.

What should we do, Terry, when the enumerator can't spell them the same way

twice?

regards
Judith
