My wife is a checker for Scotland and has found a census
page which contains a drawing of a man in a top hat on the
right hand margin:

1851 Scotland Canongate HS567685, Vol 742, ED 9, page 2
alongside Sched 5

It illustrates that clerks of that period used to doodle.

Has any other drawings been discovered?
