Domain name scam?
It seems that recently someone is attempting to start up an internet based
business trading under the name GENUKI.com.

I personally find it quite a disturbing, if sharp, use of the internet for
personal profit. The similarity between the URL’s will no doubt cause people
to visit the site by accident, the question is, will they know they are at
the wrong site if they have never visited GENUKI before?

Many of you will know the high regard with which I hold GENUKI, I is
undoubtedly the best web based resource for anyone studying their UK family
history, and I would hope that this will not damage its reputation. I am
personally hoping that something can be done legally, if I hear more I will
let you know.

In the meantime please do make as many people aware as possible that this is
not GENUKI, and not free.

New Books & Software

More new software from Trevor at TWR:

We have an important new CD from Genealogy.com (Broderbund) of great
interest to those with Irish forebears.

The price is 29 pounds including first class post (or airmail to Europe) and
VAT. The CD may be used directly from Family Tree Maker, or we will provide
a free copy of the Family Archive Viewer CD on request.

CD# 275 - Genealogical Records: Irish Source Records, 1500s - 1800s
Here you'll find the indexed images of the pages from thirteen volumes of
Irish census, land, marriage, and probate records. In all, approximately
190,000 individuals are referenced within this unique compilation. The
information collected here is especially valuable since nearly all of
Ireland's pre-1901 census records were lost in a 1922 fire at the Public
Records Office in Dublin. This Family Archive includes extensively
researched reconstructions of the 1841 and 1851 censuses as well as
transcriptions of the surviving 1851 census fragments for County Cork. In
addition, you'll find record of wills that were abstracted or copied before
the fire.
This Family Archive was produced in collaboration with the Genealogical
Publishing Company.

Webpage reviews
http://www.scottap.com/family/lanark/index.html
Lanark Miscellany
A really good idea this, these webpages have been provided from information
from members of the Rootsweb Lanark mailing list, there are a few articles,
a few transcriptions, links to where else to go. This is a genuine example
of people banding together to provide information in a simple, no nonsense
way. In a rather laid back and relaxed way this site is a marvellous
resource for anyone with an interest in Lanarkshire

Photographs of Birmingham UK Past and Present
Interesting, but image heavy collection of pictures of Birmingham. Could be
interesting if your ancestors came from Birmingham, but you'll have to be
patient

Some notes on medieval English genealogy
Comprehensive , and very useful site, explaining the sources and records for
mediaeval genealogy, lots of links including links to where to find source
material. A really good site for those who are getting back this far, with
explanations of the records and where to find them. My only quibble really
is the size of the images at the top of end page, a smaller image would mean
the page would load much quicker, and the image is not that important!
