Webpage reviews
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~britishhomechildren
British Home Children
Website dedicated to the 100,000 British Home Children sent to work inCanada
between 1870 and 1940. This sensitive issue is dealt with compassion, plenty
of background and interesting information is give. There is also an indexed
list of names, with ages & ships which have been submitted or researched.

Jewish Miscellany
When you visit a lot of genealogy sites many of them seem quite similar, in
both content and style. It is then an absolute pleasure to visit a site that
surprises this much. The aim of the site is quoted as 'The purpose is to
make a modest amount of source material and databases available to
researchers' which I feel is a big understatement! There are plenty of real,
actual records here for you to search, of Jewish peoples in England. Most of
these centre around London, and there are some fabulous searchable databases
and lists. Also there is other information on the life of Jewish communities
in London, one of the most interesting articles on the site is an extract
from Mayhew's London Labour and the London Poor, concentrating on the Jewish
references, and to my delight details have been added from directories of
the people living in the area, giving the articles some real context..
Thesis an absolutely fabulous website, which is a must for anyone with
Jewish ancestors.

http://www.belperweb.co.uk/history/history.html
Fascinating look at the local history of Belper, a town central to the
development of the Cotton Industry. This page will give you details of the
development of the town, and it's influence worldwide. It is part of
Belperweb, which will give you lots more information on the town today. The
site is framed, but there is a non-frames version for those of us with an
aversion!!

Upcoming Events
There are four events taking place around the UK on 30th September, all of
which seem quite interesting!

Warwickshire FHS are holding an Open day at Alveston Village Hall near
Stratford on Avon, further details can be obtained from

There is a seminar on Our Friends in the North, at the University of Leeds,
covering Quaker History in Yorkshire, this is in the afternoon, from 1.00pm
to 4.30pm, details from

Hertfordshire Family and Population History Society are having a talk on
Coroners Inquests at Digswell Village Hall at 3pm. Details can be obtained
from

And finally, on the same day the SoG are holding another repeat of their
lecture on 300 million names, covering the IGI on CD Rom, this course has
been very popular in the past and has now been repeated several times.
Details on this course can be obtained from

…and all on one day!
