Webpage reviews

Website of the British Records Association. A basic, but attractive website,
which explains about the associations and it's aims. The association was
formed to assist and encourage the preservation of records and also to
encourage their use, and on this site you can find out more about
membership, their publications (some of which are very useful to
genealogists) and about how records are preserved. A nice little site
http://www.ihr.sas.ac.uk/publications/office/index.html
Office Holders in Modern Britain. At first sight this website appears to
have little relevance to the ordinary genealogist, but I was pleasantly
surprised with the amount of detail it held. The site lists office holders
and members of the Royal Household from the restoration until fairly recent.
An example of what I could find was that the Clerk of the Stable to
Frederick Prince of Wales in 1729 was called William Hodgkin and was paid a
salary of £130. The site is basically a marketing/promotional tool for the
twelve volume series of the same name, but still there are some interesting
details on the website!

A rather garish but nethertheless interesting website of the Rhayader &
District History Archives. The website has lots of information about the
archives as well as some downloadable zipped files from the 1851 and 1881
census and some other files including graveyard lists. No doubt a very
useful website it did, unfortunately put me off completely with a difficult
navigation system and colours that were too bright for my eyes!
