HI Everyone, and welcome back to this weeks, GENUKI Family History News. I

will be another gap in the newsletter coming up, but I will let you know
more about that nearer the time.

I have quite a bit of correspondence to catch up on so if you have emailed
me over the last few weeks, I will get back to you as soon as possible

Hope you enjoy the newsletter this week

New Books & CDs

New Titles from Archive CD Books:

New CD Releases this week

First, two books which have been here on the shelves for quite some time
0111 Norfolk 1896 Kelly's Directory 14.00
0120 Lincolnshire 1913 Kelly's Directory 14.00
Both are very comprehensive directories, and typical of the later
Kelly's Directories, also include street by street, house by house
listings of householders in the main towns.

Next, another batch of Kelly's Directories loaned to the project by the
Family Records Centre in London:
9018P Bedfordshire Kelly's Directory 1890 11.00
9020P Channel Islands Kelly's Directory 1903 11.00
9021P Devon 1893 Kelly's Directory 14.00
9022P Dorset 1903 Kelly's Directory 11.00
9023P Essex 1886 Kelly's Directory 11.00
9025P Northumberland 1894 Kelly's Directory 14.00
9026P Durham 1902 Kelly's Directory 14.00

and three earlier directories (again from the Family Records Centre)
(Slater's were the successors to Pigot's)
9019P Cambridgeshire Slater's Directory 1850 8.50
9024P North Wales 1835 Pigot's Directory 8.50
9027P South Wales 1835 Pigot's Directory 8.50

and finally, a real peach - two large volumes that will be absolutely
invaluable to those with ancestors in the greater London area. (Note:
these books do not include central London).
0550 Greater London - A Narrative of Its History, Its People, and Its
Places 16.98
The books contain superbly detailed descriptions of each town and
village in the district as they were in the mid 1800s, when they were
just tiny places, together with lovely line engravings that can be used
to illustrate your family history files. They provide really interesting
background information for your family history. Volume I has 576 pages,
Volume II has 560 pages. Also includes a superb index and a map of
London in the 1880's. Written by Edward Walford and published by Cassell
& Company, Limited

Webpage reviews

http://www.eh.net/ehresources/howmuch/pound_question.php
I do enjoy a good ‘frivolous’ site that really adds little to family history
itself but can be used as an interesting experiment into social history, and
lives, and in this case wealth of our ancestors. This is a one page query
site where you can enter a value in old money and a year, and it will tell
you how much that would be worth today (or in fact in 2000!). Well worth
keeping as one of your favourites, the query is quick and simple

A health warning for your eyes needs to come before clicking on this
hyperlink! The font on this page is so large it’s incredible. However –
persist, for one hyperlink click away are some great little indexes to
Directories. There are indexes for Norfolk, Buckinghamshire,
Northamptonshire and Suffolk in the early nineteenth century. The indexes
are very plain which is nice after the homepage, and contain name,
occupation and place. A super little resource to know about this

Always one to promote the weird and wonderful, but sometimes vital
resources, I really enjoyed finding this site. It is a list of names of
those who fought in the Irish Regiment in the US Civil War/ If you family
were from Ireland it is well worth having a look at this, as many Irishmen
did fight in the Civil War, on both sides, and most settled permanently in
the US after this, if they had not before. There is also more information on
the Irish Brigade via a link.
