GENUKI Family History News
No 74
11th November 2001
Hi Everyone, and welcome to this weeks 74th GENUKI Family History News
This week we have a lot of recent additions to GENUKI to Get through so a
lot of concentrating on that, but there are also Webpage reviews, and some
upcoming events
Annie Jackson sent me the following details of a couple of weddings of
English servicemen in India, I thought they looked interesting enough to
reproduce, you never know they might help someone!
Williams & Done Wedding, 5th January 1887, William Henry DONE, son of
William Done & Minnie Louise WILLIAMS, dau of Thomas Williams. She is aged
27, he is 30, she a Spinster, he a bachelor. At the time of the marriage he
is a Sergeant assistant instructor in Gunnery. Both are resident in Colaba.
The witnesses were Thomas Williams, Ellen Williams, and the wedding was
performed by G H LEWSI
Barclay & Reid Wedding, 10th January 1887. William BARCLAY, son of William
Barclay aged 24, bachelor, constable in Bombay Police Force & Martha Edith
REID, dau of John Edgar Reid aged 18, spinster. The Witnesses were John
Dillon and Thos Williams
New Books & CDs
I noticed in a recent edition of Family History Monthly that the PRO has
revised and republished Army Service Record of the First World War. It was
in need of revision due to the number of records that have been released
lately. This is a great book on this subject, probably one of the best
around, and should be available from your usual genealogical supplier
Certificates
Two Birth Certificates this week:
PRICE, Elizabeth b26 Aug 1850, dau of John Price and Elizabeth Burden
Price formerly Ballard at Upper Higham, North Aylesford, Kent.
Tom Henry FRY born 23 Feb 1848 Stratton on the Fosse, Stoke Lane, Co.
Somerset. Parents: Ann nee Taylor and John Fry, blacksmith.
If this is of use to you in your own personal research, drop me a line at
and I will put you in touch with the
current holder
Meanwhile, if you have a certificate you dont need that may be of use to
someone else then drop me a line, and we will advertise it in an upcoming
newsletter.
Webpage reviews
http://www.geocities.com/jolimetzuk/
A simple little site, dedicated to publishing details of Nurse Kate Harveys
notebook/diary/album she was given in Christmas 1901 by her father. She used
it when she was a nurse at Gravesend Hospital between 1916 and 1919 to
collect entries/poems and pictures from soldiers at the hospital, and a
number of names. A fascinating little website, unlikely to help you
enormously in your research, but worth a look at anyway. My only quibbles
are the amount of pop up screens and advertisements typical on a Geocities
sites, and a slightly confusing layout, but still well worth a look
http://www.geocities.com/grahamsward/
I had my problems when navigating this site, it seemed there were a lot of
bugs in the code of the webpages causing annoying little pop up error
screens. It is also a Geocities site, compounding these problems by adding
pop up advertisements. However I took a deep breath counted to ten, and was
very glad I did. The site contains a lot of interesting information about
the VORLEY family, but most interesting to a wider range of people there was
a lot of general information about nonconformity. There was a list of
chapels in Northamptonshire, and quite a few list of Baptist Ministers, all
of which could be useful. I did not like the frames of the site, but the
colours were pleasing on the eye, I just wish the syntax errors could be
corrected!
http://www.londonancestor.com/
A Lovely website, well designed and extremely easy to navigate this site
concentrates on your London Ancestors, of which many of us have! The site
contains extracts from Newspapers, directories, as well as tax and police
documents. There are also a collection of great views of the city taken from
a mixture of documents. Wonderfully put together this site is a real gem of
a find
