GENUKI Family History News
No 109
10th September 2002
Hi Everyone
Apologies for the two week gap in issues. Am afraid to
say a rather busy period at work overtook me and was
not able to find the time to put out an issue last
week!
My apologies also go out to anyone who has emailed me
and not received a response it is coming!
Saw this message on A FFHS newsflash this week:
Sarah Bridges, County Archivist at Northamptonshire
Record Office, has
advised that the Office is now open to the public on
Mondays from 2
September.
It has been closed on this day for a year now but has
been able to
Reopen following some reconsideration of staff
responsibilities, rather than any additional funding.
It will, however, be opening from 10.30 am so as to
make regular provision for staff training and
development first thing in the morning.
Opening hours are now as follows:
Monday 10.30 am to 4.45 pm
Tuesday 9.00 am to 4.45 pm
Wednesday 9.00 am to 4.45 pm
Thursday 9.00 am to 7.45 pm
Friday 9.00 am to 4.15 pm

If this is of use to you in your own personal
research, drop me a line
At and I will put you
in touch with the current holder
Meanwhile, if you have a certificate you don't need
that may
be of use to someone else then drop me a line, and we
will advertise it
in an upcoming newsletter .
We have changed the certificate system a little, to
give hopefully an added opportunity for sharing
information. If you have a spare certificate that is
of no use to you at all then you can either send me
the details, as normal, or send me the certificate. If
the certificate is sent to me then it will be sent on
to any enquiries. All spare certificates sent to me
will have their details registered on Free BMD. After
six months if nobody has claimed the certificates as
interesting to their research then they will be
deposited at the SoG library. I will however keep all
the details of the certificate on file and pass them
on to any relevant one name studies registered with
the Guild of One Name Studies.
The address for spare certificates to be sent to is:
GFHN, 66 Northern Road, Aylesbury, HP19 9QY
WEBPAGE REVIEWS
http://www.heather5.com/
This was a rather peculiar website. At first I took an
immediate dislike to it on the basis that I found the
design gaudy and far too much for my eye. However I
persevered through this and some difficult navigation
and eventually found that the site is actually rather
interesting. There is a host of genealogical material
on the site, most of it related to Scotland, and
including a list of the inhabitants of Cambuslang in
1807. My advice if you have ancestors in this area is
to take a look at this website, but be patient!
http://cathcartclan.tripod.com/cathcartclan/
A bright and colourful website devoted to the Cathcart
clan of Scotland. I rather enjoyed this site even
though I would admit information was sparce. There was
a brief history of the Clan and issue of the
newsletter. However it was well designed and
colourful. The only downside is Tripods inevitable
annoying pop up screens!
