GENUKI FAMILY HISTORY NEWS
No 113

1st November 2002

Hi everyone, and welcome back to GENUKI UK Family
History News. I have finally managed to resolve my IT
Problems and now have a brand new laptop and much
rescued data! I think it must always be the case
though that these things happen on the first day of
three weeks away from the country!

Well we are back now and many apologies for the lack
of newsletters over the last few weeks!

www.burkes-usa.com
Burke’s Peerage & Gentry have added 1,400 records of
American families with British and Irish ancestry to
the online collection. The database now includes over
7,000 ancestries.

Burke’s are already synonymous with the chronicling of
British titled and landed families. The new families
are presented in the style and manner traditionally
applied to the titled and landed families of the
British Isles. These records are fully searchable,
through the incumbent, his biography, seats, arms,
clubs and the lineage.

The families were selected for their titled and landed
links with Britain and Ireland at the time of their
emigration to the U.S., as well as their standing in
the new world. Most of the lineages begin in the 16th,
and 17th Century Britain, and chart the family
ancestry on both sides of the Atlantic where
available. Each record typically contains the
generations, information about the origins of the
family in Britain, and achievements and positions held
of the individuals down the centuries.

Burke’s Peerage & Gentry are now in the process of
updating the records to the present day. Consequently
this collection will evolve and grow to be an
authoritative resource for family histories.

Individuals can access the complete database for US$99
(annual) or US$25 (24 hours). Subscribers have full
access to the following data collections:

Over 7,000 family records from the publications -
Burke's Peerage & Baronetage 106th Edition
Burke's Landed Gentry Scotland 19th Edition
(continually updated).
Burke's Landed Gentry England & Wales 18th Edition.

ATAVUS - Burke's exclusive bi-monthly e-magazine

And now -
19th Edition of Burke’s Landed Gentry - Ireland (based
on the Irish supplement to the 15th edition, 1937)
19th Edition of Burke's Landed Gentry - American
families with British and Irish ancestry (based on the
records in the 16th edition, 1939)
American Presidential Families - COMING IN NOVEMBER

WEBPAGE REVIEWS

http://mysite.freeserve.com/lincolnshireprestons
A site dedicated to the Preston family of
Lincolnshire, but this site has much, much more than
that! The site contains a fabulous collection of
letters wriiten by one Nicholas Preston of Burton Upon
Slaither in Lincolnshire. I could not help myself but
read some of them and they are wonderful, giving a
real picture of life lived in the late nineteenth
century. I would seriously recommend anyone reads the
website collators favourite half dozen letters, they
are truly marvellous and a wonderful insight. My one
worry about the site was the vivid blue background
which hurt my eyes very quickly, but apart from that
it was most fun! Probably not the most use
genealogicially but still well worth a look.

http://mysite.freeserve.com/stchadskirkby
A Nice little website dedicated to the Memorial
Inscriptions of St Chads Church, Kirkby. A simple site
which is easy to follow, and seemingly not quite
complete (there are some uncompleted links) There are
records of the inscriptions, an alphabetical list of
the names and a plot of the churchyard. Nice and
pleasing design this is a simple, yet effective
website, and realistically the way many monumental
inscriptions should be produced!.
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bathonia/BaHm.htm
This website is dedicated to the Bath, Bathe and de
Bathe families originating in Ireland, England and
Wales in Medieval times. Whilst I was not very keen on
the design of the site, and found some of the links
slow it was definitely an interesting site. It would
be most interesting to those either interested in
these family names, or more widely in medieval
genealogy or history. The site is well sourced, and
the information itself is laid out clearly and
visibly.

the Guild of One Name Studies.
