WEBPAGE REVIEWS

http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/
Maybe a slight digression from my usual reviewed
website but I felt this one deserved a good mention.
It is a website devoted to promoting ‘America’s First
Families’ that is to say the first immigrants into the
new country. Pedigrees and background information
relating to each of the entrants is on the site, and
it is really easy to find the information you need.
There is also an extensive amount of information on
previously published forged pedigrees pertaining to
come from first families. This in itself is a
fascinating section of the website and worthy of a
read! I was not happy with the design which I found a
bit messy and occasionally hard to read, but otherwise
a great site

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/
These are the websites of the London, Belfast and
Edinburgh Gazettes. These are the newspapers of record
and contain much information about medals, insolvency
and many many other records. The websites contain
quite a bit of modern information, but they beauty of
them is that they also contain an archive from World
Wars One and Two. These are periods when the Gazette
came into its own recording the medals and honours of
soldiers. Not only is this archive online and free,
but you can search it too. The search mechanism is
quick and easy, results are returned quickly even for
common names. Then you can view Adobe Acrobat versions
of the original paper so you can actually see the
record itself. A well designed and super to use
website which brings another new category of record
online for us to use

http://www.origins.net/ScotsLife/
Scots Life is part of the Scots Origins website. As
far as I could tell this was a free part of the
website and well worth a visit! It gives social
background to Scottish history and will help you
understand the ways and cultures of your Scottish
ancestors if you do not already know! There were
articles about Hogmany, Religion, Golf, Fishing,
Emigration and much more. The other bonus is that many
of the articles seem to come from journals and first
hand accounts, making them considerably more
interesting than just an historical account

If this is of use to you in your own personal
research, drop me a line
At and I will put you
in touch with the current holder
Meanwhile, if you have a certificate you don't need
that may be of use to someone else then drop me a
line, and we will advertise it in an upcoming
newsletter .

We have changed the certificate system a little, to
give hopefully an added opportunity for sharing
information. If you have a spare certificate that is
of no use to you at all then you can either send me
the details, as normal, or send me the certificate. If
the certificate is sent to me then it will be sent on
to any enquiries. All spare certificates sent to me
will have their details registered on Free BMD. After
six months if nobody has claimed the certificates as
interesting to their research then they will be
deposited at the SoG library. I will however keep all
the details of the certificate on file and pass them
on to any relevant one name studies registered with
the Guild of One Name Studies.
