Hi Mike and Tony,
I have been following this thread with interest as I have quite a few Irish
men from various counties who enlisted in the British Army in Ireland in the
early part of the 19 century all in different regiments. I was under the
impression that all the regiments recruited in Ireland when they numbers
were a bit down and not necessarily when they were stationed there.
Regiments were known by number from 1751 previous to being attached by a
County and Royalty (I can not remember the date when they did that).
