Jean: I don't know if this is relevant, but when you google "Arthur James
Barker WWI Prisoner of War", you get several hits. This particular
gentleman was an author and described the conditions, etc. of prisoner of
war soldiers in WWI.

Might be worth a look.

Trying to find anything that would relate to my Uncle`s return from WW1. He
signed on (under age) was taken a POW , punished for striking a German
Officer to a flogging and 12 years hard labour. On his return from the war
my mother as a small child remembers a street party in ARDWICK Manchester
and it being reported in the (local?) papers.
His name was Arthur James Barker.
My difficulty is not knowing the approx. date and which newspapers would be
relevant.
Any advice anyone?
