I am seeking assistance from SKS who has access to or will in the near future
be visiting a records office where the record will be available. The record
required is I believe that for Dalton in Furness. Sorry this is a long one, but

below is the situation I am seeking to resolve.
I have recently received the marriage certificate for my paternal grandparents.

This has allowed me to identify my grandmother's father, Myles HODGSON. My
grandmother was born Ethel HODGSON in Ulverston on 3rd June 1886.
I have census entries for him from 1851, 1861 and 1881 as follows.
In the 1851 census the same family appears in Allithwaite Lower:-

The first born son, named Park strongly suggests the mothers maiden name may be

Park. Reference to the IGI yields a candidate for the spouse of the correct
age:-

However, the entry below would seem to kill that possibility.

Which appears to suggest that she married another. However, if the source
details are investigated, they can be seen to be as follows:-

Official temple record for deceased individuals, 1991-

Which means they have been extracted and extrapolated from a death record. Such

extractions are notoriously prone to error. The nearest potential Myles
Thompsons appear to come from the Kendal area, which is possible.
However, one can also imagine a badly written death or burial entry, where the
last 3 letters are 'son' proceeded by a letter with a descender, which could be

p. q, y or g. The start of the word has two vertical lines with a bar to the
top left, could be Th. But this could also be an 'H' with the customary
flourish of the time. So she could have died Eleanor Thompson, but I could also

believe her name at death was mistranscribed and was actually HODGSON. The
death is commonly reported by a family member, which could have been
interpreted as her husband when in fact it was possibly her son Myles.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could look at the marriage records for

Dalton in Furness, or even other nearby locations to determine if there was a
marriage in September 1833 that involved Eleanor PARK. And if so, I would
appreciate all the recorded details of said marriage. Hopefully, the husband
will be Robert HODGSON.
