Thanks for the Ulverston (e) reference, but also the pointer to a very
interesting history of the workhouse. I'm sorry to say, but the modern
photos could have been inserts in "Oliver Twist"!

The poster reads
ULVERSTONE

willing to sell, at a sum not exceeding L450,
a Piece or Parcel of Land, situate near the
town of Ulverstone, suitable for the erection
of the new Workhouse for the Union.
