Hi all,
Firstly, my personal thanks to Jan (what a powerhouse!) for asking me to be a
co-owner to this list.

Much of our material source is 'buried' in Public Libraries. The following is
the start of a list of books and archival material, the locations of which we
(you, Jan and I) need to discover as most publications now out of print.

Please respond if you are able to send information relating to their
whereabouts. We can obtain them through the Inter Library Loan System and
thereby extend that data to all list members. It will necessitate searches
through your local library shelves therefore we will list a few at a time.

Poverty and the Industrial Revolution, Brian Inglis, Hodder and Stoughton,
1971.

History of Beamaster, Richard Hind, Wessex Press, 1914.

Journal of the Workhouse Visiting Society 1859 - 1865.

The State of the Poor or a History of the Labouring Classes in England from
the
Conquest to the Present Period (3 volumes, 1797).

The Parish Reformers Penny Magazine, XII (1834).

The Successful Application of the New Poor Law in the Parish of Hinton
Charterhouse, the Rev. Thomas Spencer (1836).

Proceedings of Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society (Vol. 94,
1972) by Elizabeth Cockburn.

A Practical Measure of Relief from the Present System of the Poor Laws, John
Halcomb, 1926.

and:

Reminiscences of a Workhouse Medical Officer (1889) Dr Joseph Rogers (?).

I will add others to the above list next week, and there are many more we
need to rediscover. Your personal detective work will be invaluable to
everyone on our list so please keep viewing. We need to help each other even
if our individual search does not lead to personal satisfaction.

Thanks,
Tony (co-owner).
