Thank you for sharing this sad commentary on man's inhumanity. I hope the
persons in charge received a jail sentence for their cruel treatment of those
unfortunate people. I think we often view the distant past through rosy
glasses and something like this brings reality to bear.

Today's poor would be considered rich by these standards.
