Hi Paul,
Yes, the Shoreditch (St Leonard's) workhouse was on Kingsland Road. I have a
little bit of info on the place at: www.workhouses.org.uk/Shoreditch
The London Metropolitan Archive has quite a few records for Shoreditch
including birth registers for 1863.

(professional researcher). Marriage certificate - father unknown. A
carpenter, living in Shoreditch in 1881. It is believed he was brought up in
