Hello Jan,
Welcome to the list,
You don't actually mention what time she was there?
Workhouses had "Lying In" wards where poor mothers could go ..... but a time
frame would be beneficial. Many infirmaries developed and took on an
independant role, serving the general area where they were located, rather
than just the "inmates" of the workhouse.
If you could let us have a little more detail regarding dates etc ... we may
be able to help further.

Subject: [UK-W&H] Pancras Workhouse

> Hello All
> About twenty years ago, my Mother gave me a tatty scrap of paper which
turned out to be one half of a birth certificate for her Mother, Jane
Seaman, who was the daughter of George Seaman and Jane Seaman, formerley
Barker of 90 Kensal Road, Kensal Green.
> The residence of the informant (Jane) is given as Pancras Workhouse.
> Being new to genealogy at the time, I really didn't know where to start
looking for Workhouse records, so I put it aside and started working on my
Father's family (who have been in Norfolk since Adam was a lad!)
> Anyway, after having researched the Norfolk side back to 1640, I feel it
is perhaps time to start on my Mother's side again!!!
> Could someone please point me in the right direction for Pancras Workhouse
records and tell me why Jane would have been born in a Workhouse when her
parents seem to have an address of their own. Would it also have been a
Hospital at that time?
> Any help would be greatly appreciated.
> Regards, Jan.
