Hi Jacqueleine,
The records for Hanwell Asylim are at the London Metropolitan Archives BUT
they are almost certainly subject to the 100 year closure rule so you would
not be permitted to have access to them until 2004.

There are other ways of finding his spouse. You could locate his marriage
certificate, if you know where he lived prior to being in the asylum then
this narrows down your search, do you have his death certificate? This may
give more information, it should certainly give you his previous place of
residence prior to the hospital. Otherwise I'm afraid you will have to wait
for the hospital records.
