Hi folks

Derek Peasey posted a message about seperate almshouses for men and women. There are several
instances of male and female almshouses being on the same site, the Stepney Union going for that
type of arrangements at one stage. The Stepney Union purchased part of the Raine's School in
Wapping to use for women in the late 19th century.

In addition, I have some almshouse records that show either married men or women being admitted and
their domestic partners being excluded despite them still being alive. Usually the partners had
visitation rights but they had to vacate the premises by a given time. Failure to do so could lead
to the almshouse tenants being evicted!!
