Hello Alwyn ap Huw,
Welcome to the List:-)
This list is for any research connected with Workhouses and Hospitals
including inmates, staff and Asylums, so long as it relates to the Genealogy
or History aspects etc etc .....
Now to refer to your question:
Do you have an approximate age for Thomas Bitten?
I ask because there is a Thomas Beaton in the 1881 census, "Walsall & West
Bromwich Distr Schl Wigmore" with siblings (although all born in
Wednesbury - so it states!!)
Thomas BEATON 14 M Wednesbury
Occ: Scholar
Rosannah BEATON 9 F Wednesbury
Occ: Scholar
Edward BEATON 11 M Wednesbury
Occ: Scholar
Alice Jan. BEATON 5 F Wednesbury
Occ: Scholar

Wigmore School was The District School run by the Walsall and West Bromwich
Board of Guardians, where all Child Inmates were sent rather than staying in
the Workhouse.

There are a number of other Bitten entries, let me know if you'd like them.

As to the records:
Staff Registers 1863 to 1921 are held at Kew under MH 9/13. I'm sure that
Mary knows more about the Kew records .........

All the best, Jan
