Hi Pat

I checked the 1891 Census for the Isle of Thanet Union Workhouse, but regret
that I did not find an Ann PETLEY listed as an inmate.

The records of this Workhouse are held at the Centre for Kentish Studies at
Maidstone - from memory, they have Admission & Discharge Registers, as well
as the Guardians Minute Book, for the period that you are interested in.

> Hello everyone !
> My ggg grandmother - Ann Petley (nee Buffey) - died in the Union
Workhouse, (Minster in Thanet) on 8 October 1896. She was widowed in 1883 &
I'm sure she was in the workhouse on census night 1891.
> I've tried the website, but the details I'd like to know are yet to be
added. (Staff & inmates etc.) Can someone tell me where I can get any info.
about Ann while she was in there ?
> Strangely, when I was 17, I did day release there for a college course. It
was then called Hill House Hospital & so many of the older patients were
terrified of being there & believed that they would never get out of "the
workhouse" alive.
> If only I'd known then that I'd be doing the family tree 22 years later !!
Oh, the questions I'd have asked !! I'd probably have got kicked out for not
doing any work !!
> Any info. gratefully received !! Thank you !!
