Hi Phyllis,

There are indeed records of workhouse staff and they can be very detailed.
You really need to know which workhouses you are looking at though. Can you
find him on a census return living in the workhouse? This would give you a
starting point for your research as you are likely to find that he moved
jobs at some point.

If you can't find him on a census then a logical starting point would be
Paddington. He just may have been employed at Paddington Workhouse. The
records are held at the London Metropolitan Archives.
